This is a top-down shooter roguelike game made in unity for the Roguelike jam 6, Hosted by Luna H.

Although the game jam inspired me to make this game I did not make this game just for the game jam. This means I will continue to work on it after the voting is over.

FOR BEST EXPERIENCE PLAY IN FULL SCREEN.

Name: Vivid Velocity

Description: Vivid Velocity is an endless 2D top-down shooter game with Unity's post-processing Bloom effect. The player navigates a map filled with enemies spawning in a circular pattern around them. Green objects grant an additional bullet per shot. Enemies come in various types, including red zombie-like creatures and yellow-orange shooters and more. The player's goal is to survive as long as possible, defeating enemies, and gaining points.

Instructions: WASD to move and Left Mouse Button to shoot (you have infinite space to move)

You start with one life, but green things give you an extra life and +1 bullets per shot. The green arrow will help you find the Green Things just follow where it is pointed (you have to wait for one to spawn for it to appear.).

The red things are like a zombie enemy if you touch one you are dead. The orange/yellow enemies are shooting enemies, their bullets last 1 second and NGL they are kind of hard to manage when there is a lot of them. The blue ones are freeze enemies they are a little rare, but it is impossible to stop them, and they freeze you for 1 second (might not seem like but it can really mess u up). The purple one is basically a tank it just has a lot of health and movers slow.

The most important rule is to tell me what to improve on and have fun playing the game.

Fun game! Along with the things you’ve already put on your to-do list I’d suggest you do the following:

  • Increase the size of the enemy/bullet colliders to account for the halos: right now bullets look like they’ll hit but actually miss the target.
  • The camera movement is not perfectly smooth, you should make it smoother.
  • Improve the UI by using a custom font, and add a start and death screen to improve player experience.
  • I liked the enemy death effect where they explode, you should do that for the player as well (and wait before restarting so players can process what’s happened)

This has potential as a small but polished game to pass the time (especially if it’s playable on phones). Hope you’ll keep working on it!

Thank you for the feedback.

I am overhauling the movement system right now that will be done within the next week or so. Although there won't be an update just for that I plan to add and improve on everything in the future. I am going to check out your game now

thanks

This game was pretty fun, I see the inspiration you took from Sugar Warrior. My highest score was like 80, it's pretty hard lol. I know that the Roguelike Game Jam is over, but I believe you should improve more on it!

- If possible, a nice dynamic background would be nice, nothing too crazy. This could be as simple as adding small dots in the background so it feels like I'm moving around.

- Sounds/Audio is something that would be nice to have. When I was making games for the first time, I thought handling Audio would be annoying but it was really easy to do it in Unity. Anything simple as background music works fine.

Overall, this is a solid good game. If you ever need help with such things, Big Boy Brackeys is there to help you out. You can reach out if you ever need help with something. Great game!

Thanks for your feedback and for taking time to play the game. I do plan on updating the game more to make it more challenging and fun to play. When I was making the game a dynamic background did cross my mind and I tried but I could not figure it out and just decided to put it off for later. For the sound I have the same thoughts right now I think it would be annoying, that being said I do want to try to add background music and maybe some simple sound effects now.

Thank you for your feedback.

Hello

I am working on the game and ran into problem.
I can't really find a way to make a dynamic background using shaders. is there is any website or anything you suggest so I can learn how to do it.

thanks,

Josiah

May or may not be inspired by Sugar Warrior by Brackeys
